AmoVino, AmasVino, AmaVino, AmamosVino… ok, no need for all the conjugations, let’s just say we love wine! If you’re reading this, there’s a fair chance you agree with us. A glass of the good stuff is generally a good idea, so head for AmoVino, a fabulous little bar in the Eixample quarter.
The name of the bar sets the scene. AmoVino is the fruit of an adventure in wine involving three friends, Lili, Guilhem and Pierre, intrepid explorers and wine-lovers.
Leaving their native France, via a stop in Buenos Aires, the trio put down roots in Barcelona with the aim of sharing their love of good food and Catalan wines. A daring venture, but one which paid off with the opening of their “baby”, AmoVino, in March 2017.
AmoVino: a story in 3 chapters
AmoVino: wine bar and restaurant
The setting is simple and sophisticated, with an immense bar and a few tables – nothing more, nothing less, just what’s needed to enjoy a glass of one of the vast range of Catalan wines on offer with a few select morsels of tapas.
AmoVino also offers a local, seasonal lunch menu for around 15 euros. We started with a ceviche, followed by crispy chicken with tartare sauce and strawberry soup, all set off by a fabulous glass of red selected by Guilhem.
For around 25 euros, the evening “food and wine” menu features three Catalan wines, chosen by Guilhem to accompany three courses of fresh, seasonal cuisine – a great way to discover some local gems!
AmoVino: the cellars
The focus here is on Catalan wines, with over 100 varieties in stock, all carefully selected by the AmoVino team. Many of the bottles are at very reasonable prices, and the choice is mind-blowing!
AmoVino: the tasting room – our favourite part!
A pretty room, separated from the rest of the venue, is entirely devoted to the art of wine tasting. Different options are available to suit your tastes, budget and knowledge. The space is available to hire for private events (private tastings, cocktail parties, lunches or dinners, meetings, birthdays and more).
- We’ve been lucky enough to enjoy two of Guilhem’s tasting sessions, tasting and comparing 5 different wines (one cava, one white and three reds), accompanied by local meats and cheeses.
- The verdict? We loved it! No fuss, no jargon, just great company, great wine, and simple, clear explanations. Guilhem is a passionate, expert sommelier and his enthusiasm is infectious.
- The enjoyable and educational experience (illustrated by a map of Catalan wines for each guest) will set you back 30 euros (5 wines) or 24 euros (4 wines).
- Duration: 90 minutes.
AmoVino: events and promotions
Every other Wednesday, at 8pm, a local producer is invited to present their wines at AmoVino. The tasting features 4 or 5 wines from the region, alongside tasters of Catalan meats and cheeses.
- The tasting evening costs between 1o and 15 euros, but the price is deductible from the cost of any bottles featured on the night.
Aperitifs at AmoVino
On Thursdays, from 7pm – 10pm, it’s happy hour at AmoVino, with meat and cheese tapas supplied free of charge with every glass of wine. A great way to start the evening in style…
