Lateral Restaurant: good tapas, great lighting and refined décor

Lateral Escalivada

Following the runaway success of the Lateral restaurant chain in Madrid, the owners decided to branch out into cities away from the capital. First stop? Barcelona! The youngest member of the Lateral family recently opened to the public in the heart of the Eixample quarter, a stone’s throw from Rambla Catalunya.

A light, bright space with a sophisticated look

Even from outside, your eye is sure to be drawn to the pretty covered terrace with its potted palm trees. You’ll be very tempted to stop for a bite to eat, and we think you’ll like what you find!

Going into the restaurant proper, one of the first things you’ll notice is the beautiful lighting which floods into the space from a variety of sources: oil lamps on the tables, illuminated inside windows and delicate sunbeam wall lamps. At the back of the room, an immense mirror reflects the elegant décor, inspired by romantic French bistro style. The whole effect is charming, relaxing and cosy.

Lateral’s extensive tapas menu

Next, onto the food! Here, the tapas is the star of the show. As you’ll know, tapas comes in small portions – keep that in mind when ordering.

Choosing from the menu is no easy task, given the extensive range of original and mouthwatering tapas on offer at Lateral. The daily specials, risottos, melted cheeses, fish tartares, salads, charcuterie boards, meat-based tapas and mini-kebabs will have your mouth watering even before you’ve finished reading the menu!

If you have a sweet tooth, we highly recommend the apple and berry crumble, served with a scoop of ice cream. It’s a culinary masterpiece!

Useful information

Prices at Lateral

There are no fixed-price menus at Lateral, so at lunchtime, expect to pay more than in a restaurant with a classic lunchtime offer: it may be better to wait until the evening. Allow between 20 and 30 euros (depending on appetite!) and 4-5 euros for dessert.

Lateral opening times

Good news: the kitchen is open non-stop, every day of the week.

  • Sunday to Wednesday: 12 noon – 1 am
  • Thursday to Saturday: 12 noon – 2am

The Lateral pincho solidario

If you like your food to taste good, but also to do good, we have something for you! On days when it’s available, order the pincho solidario. Fifty cents from each sale of this dish are given to the Balia foundation to combat childhood poverty.

Through this initiative, Lateral has already raised over 10,000 euros for the charity. That’s one more reason to visit!
