chocolate and churros: around 5 euros
Oriol Balaguer, a big name in chocolate, deploys his art in many boutiques around Barcelona but the opening of his new chocolate shop located in the Born area did not go unnoticed. And for good reason. It’s worth a trip!
The new address of Oriol Balaguer brings together space and refinement. And the talent of renowned architect Lázaro Rosa-Violán has been well used to recreate the warm atmosphere of a local chocolate shop using typical local materials like ceramics, together with his own touch of elegance.
Spacious volumes and elegant materials make it hard to resist sinking down for a relaxing and tasty break.
The long counter sets the tone, and it’s clear that here the keyword is choc-o-late! In bars, bonbons, lollipops or ice cream form, there is enough to make your head spin. At Oriol Balaguer’s, the cocoa is the highest quality and will please even the most discerning chocolate lovers!
A great classic: hot chocolate
You can try a thick Spanish hot chocolate, as well as its more calorific cousin, the suís topped with Chantilly and powdered chocolate. The quality of the chocolate and the lightness of the cream make a huge difference. We fully recommend you try both!
The churros we tried here were pretty good but you might also decide to accompany your hot chocolate with a croissant (voted best butter croissant in Spain in 2014) or melindros (a local specialty resembling lady fingers).
Bespoke chocolate bars
Fun detail: you can create your own personalised chocolate bar. You simply have to choose the covering you want and in 15 minutes your bar will be covered in whatever your heart desires: pistachios, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, etc…
That said, the price seems a little high for us at almost 9 euros for a little bar. It’s up to you to decide how much you want it.
A special holder for hot chocolate and churros
Your schedule is packed and you don’t have 2 minutes to sit down? No problem! You can still enjoy a hot chocolate and churros while pounding the pavements of Barcelona thanks to the perfectly designed holder.
He knows what’s important, this Oriol Balaguer!
