Vermut i a la Gàbia: a warm, authentic tapas bar in Sants

Vermut i a la gàbia inside

Vermut i a la Gàbia is a tapas bar the way I like them: friendly, relaxed atmosphere, good tapas, unusual decor, low prices and welcoming staff…the type of place where you feel so relaxed you could spend the whole evening there without noticing the time go by!

Behind its seemingly ordinary name there is a hidden pun on a typical Catalan expression: “Mut i a la gàbia” which literally means “silent and in a cage”, a colorful way of saying “Be quiet!”. But in this happy, lively place on plaça d’Osca, you might find it difficult to keep your mouth shut. I challenge you to try!

Take a seat on the terrace!

If, like me, enjoying a drink on a terrace is your guilty pleasure, I strongly recommend the terrace at Vermut i a la Gàbia! Sheltered from the city bustle the bar’s terrace provides the perfect setting for a relaxing drink and a few tapas.

  • Like most areas in Barcelona, the terraces here close between 11pm and midnight out of respect for the neighbors.
  • Rest assured, it’s no bad thing as it gives you the chance to discover the interior, which is just as charming!

Retro decor!

We thoroughly enjoyed examining all the different objects that adorn the walls of the bar! You will find black and white portraits, multicolored jars and even wine barrels being used as shelves. Ham hanging near the bar provides a wonderful complement to the wall’s colored tiles. Everything has been carefully chosen and the result is superb!

  • Original, colorful, with a retro touch, this little place is totally charming!

Vermut i a la Gàbia and its delicious tapas

At Vermut i a la Gàbia, the food tastes as good as the bar looks! On the menu, you will find a wide range of tapas, such as pinchos, croquettes, escalivada or even seafood (preserved rather than fresh).

  • The portions are quite generous! We recommend you order a small round first and then order again if you’re still hungry.

Vermut i a la Gàbia’s prices

There’s nothing nicer than a delicious meal that doesn’t break the bank! Here the prices are as good as the food: expect to pay around 1.90 euro for a pincho, 1.50 for 2 croquettes, between 3 and 6 euros for a portion of tapas and 7-8 euros for a hot dish. The bar also serves very generous meat and cheese boards for 8.50.

In terms of drinks, you can enjoy a glass of wine for 2.60 euros (that’s right, I said it was cheap!). Other drinks prices range from 3 to 5 euros.
