No need to leave Barcelona: simply head to Montju&iuml;c to completely disconnect from the chaos of the city centre.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The name of this hill comes either from the medieval Catalan &#8220;Jewish hill&#8221; or the Latin &#8220;Mont Jovicus&#8221; meaning Mount Jupiter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>A little history&#8230;<\/h3>\n<p>\nMontju&iuml;c has always been a strategically important place in Barcelona. Transformed into a military prison during the Spanish civil war, the castle was the sad setting for many trials and executions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Montju&iuml;c telecommunications tower<\/strong>: you will no doubt notice from far away that its design is audacious and innovative. It&#8217;s hard to know which direction to look in!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lively picnics<\/strong>: Like all green spaces, Montju&iuml;c is particularly well suited to <a title=\"Un pique-nique &agrave; Barcelone: nos endroits pr&eacute;f&eacute;r&eacute;s pour un repas champ&ecirc;tre\" href=\"\/picnic-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">picnics<\/a>. The concept is simply a giant picnic in a huge park with DJs, dance floors, and activities for children. Fun times guaranteed!<\/li>\n<li><strong>An open air cinema festival<\/strong>: every year in July, the <a title=\"Sala Montju&iuml;c: cin&eacute;ma en plein air sur les hauteurs de Barcelone\" href=\"\/sala-montjuic-open-air-cinema\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sala Montju&iuml;c<\/a> takes place: an open air cinema festival in the gardens of the Montju&iuml;c castle, showcasing cult films from all eras.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A high-perched restaurant<\/strong>: peckish? What would you say to a tasty meal in a superb high-flung setting?
