You don’t need to be a great music lover to visit the Harlem Jazz Club, right in the heart of the old town. Here, you’ll find a vibrant mix of tourists and locals of all ages, coming together to enjoy the friendly and resolutely positive atmosphere.

Over the years, the Harlem Jazz Club has built up a very varied core of regulars, and continues to host, without fuss or fanfare, some of Barcelona’s finest artists.

The Harlem Jazz Club atmosphere

Bathed in a soft, red light, the décor has a retro feel, with stacks of vinyl records behind the bar. There’s a feel of simplicity and authenticity. The stage is small, and there aren’t many places to sit; if you want to get a chair, it’s best to arrive early, as the club fills up fast.

A varied programme

The club showcases jazz and blues acts, but also flamenco and Brazilian music. The full, up-to-date programme is available on the club’s website.

A different group plays each night, except on Tuesdays, which feature a blues jam session and a group led by “El Chino” (“the Chinese guy”), an unmissable Harlem classic. The music is great, and the atmosphere is just as good. At the end of the night, there’s even a chance to get up on stage yourself and play, or sing, something with the band. You’ll just need to bring your own instrument and sign up on arrival.

Friday and Saturday nights are generally given over to Latino or Brazilian music, played by artists from Barcelona or further afield.
