{"id":4631,"date":"2017-05-08T14:07:58","date_gmt":"2017-05-08T14:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/barcelona-top-travel-tips.com\/?p=4631"},"modified":"2020-03-23T16:22:55","modified_gmt":"2020-03-23T15:22:55","slug":"biergarten-beer-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barcelona-top-travel-tips.com\/biergarten-beer-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Biergarten: beer festival and traditional activities at Poble Espanyol"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The BierGarten Festival is held at Poble Espanyol in late April &#8211; early May each year, and it&#8217;s a must for beer lovers!<\/p>\n<h2>A BierGarten in a magical setting<\/h2>\n<p>\nThe BierGarten festival is held in the magical setting of <a href=\"\/poble-espanyol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Poble Espanyol<\/a>, a gigantic open-air museum which includes lifesize reproductions of typical buildings, streets and squares from different cities across Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Entry to Poble Espanyol is usually at around 13 euros, but during BierGarten, you can get in for free if you leave in Barcelona and if not, you pay less.\n<\/p>\n<h2>BierGarten: homage to German beer festivals<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/05\/chopedebiere-post-.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter background-curly-sprite wp-image-4857 \" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/05\/chopedebiere-post-.png\" alt=\"beermug\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In case you hadn&#8217;t worked it out, &#8220;Bier&#8221; and &#8220;garten&#8221; mean &#8220;beer&#8221; and &#8220;garden&#8221; in German: essentially, a huge open-air bar with a fun and laid-back atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>As you may well have guessed, beer is the star of the show! It&#8217;s only served in 1L mugs&#8230; so don&#8217;t say we didn&#8217;t warn you. A wide range of beers are available, from classics such as Grimbergen or Kronenbourg to lesser-known options like Mahou Negra (so dark it&#8217;s almost black) or La Blue (beer with vodka), alongside gluten-free options for those with sensitivities.<\/p>\n<p>The festival programme also includes contests, workshops and concerts! Traditional Bavarian treats are on offer throughout the festival.\n<\/p>\n<h2>Useful information<\/h2>\n<h3>Access to the BierGarten<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Access to the festival (which includes entry to Poble Espanyol) is free for residents of Catalonia. You&#8217;ll just need to pay for your drinks (and any food you buy).<\/li>\n<li>You can also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biergartenbcn.com\/reserva-tu-mesa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">book a table online<\/a>. This option also means you won&#8217;t have to queue. Remember to print your booking confirmation, you may need to present it to get in.<\/li>\n<li>Under-18s are allowed into the festival but will not be sold alcohol. They must also be accompanied by an adult (over-18).<\/li>\n<li>You can&#8217;t bring your own food or alcoholic drinks into the festival. Try to avoid bringing too much with you, as there&#8217;s nowhere to leave bags on-site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Booking a table<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You can book a table at BierGarten using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biergartenbcn.com\/reserva-tu-mesa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">this link.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The tables all seat between 8 and 10, so expect to be sharing with strangers &#8211; a great way of meeting people!<\/li>\n<li>Reservations are for specific time slots.
