Cervecería 100 montaditos: budget-friendly beer and sandwiches
Some restaurant chains seem to be so successful that they’re practically unstoppable. One example of this phenomenon is 100 Montaditos, a popular Spanish chain of bars which started in 2001 in a small village in Andalucia.
The concept behind 100 Montaditos
The basic premise of 100 Montaditos is to sell a range of traditional mini-sandwiches and beers, all at low, low prices. A recipe for success, if ever there was one!
At the time of writing, the chain has over 230 bars in Spain and is increasingly present elsewhere in Europe, in Mexico and in the US.
The unique selling point of the chain is its menu, which, as the name of the bars indicates, offers a list of 100 different montaditos.
In Spain, montaditos are traditionally slices of bread, three to four inches long, with different toppings.
- Here, the montaditos are mini-sandwiches, and there’s something for everyone!
The best part? None of the sandwiches will set you back more than 2€. The price varies between 1€ and 2€ depending on the number of ingredients in a specific montaditos.
The menu also includes breakfast items for around 2€, salads for around 3€, dishes “para picar” (nachos, fries and little sausages) for less than 2€ , and drinks. Beer-lovers will be blown away by the prices: 70 cents for a caña (draught beer) and 1€ for a pint! Can’t say better than that.
Top tips at 100 Montaditos
On Mondays and Tuesdays, you can get a montadito and a beer for 2 euros.
On Wednesdays and Sundays, almost everything on the menu is priced at 1€, which, understandably, brings in the crowds – something they call “Euromanía”. Well, what more could you want?
A new way of ordering
At 100 Montaditos, customers take an order slip from their table, tick their choices, write their names then pay at the bar. A few minutes later, your name will be called for you to go and collect your order.
- Hint: From 1.30pm and from 9pm, 100 Montaditos fills up quickly. To avoid a long wait, we suggest you visit at more “British” meal times – you’ll get served faster.
