Hotel Axel: Barcelona’s no.1 gay hotel
Hotel Axel was voted Best gay hotel in the world by readers of American magazine The Out Traveler. With its party atmosphere, its large terrace and many cute details, it offers an entirely original experience.
Hotel Axel is hetero-friendly
Hotel Axel is clearly geared towards a gay clientele, but what is most important here is freedom and tolerance. This is why both heterosexual and homosexual couples are welcome. That said, a few more suggestive elements in the decor may come as a surprise to those traveling with family.
Hotel Axel wants you to mingle
Hotel Axel encourages guests to meet, so they are all welcome to join the social network AxelPeople and create a profile to start conversations with other members.
Little “please disturb” signs are also available for each room to help guests to find each other.
Rooms at hotel Axel
Hotel Axel has standard and premium rooms. The suites are located on the 7th floor and give onto a private terrace. All rooms have a transparent shower cubicle without curtain.
The interior rooms, giving onto the patio, are just as bright as the others, but have the peculiarity of being visible. The showers are set against large windows where the transparency can be adjusted.
Hotel Axel terrace
Relax during the day
Hotel Axel’s terrace is located on the 7th floor. It is open from May to October and it is quite large and very sunny with a little pool and a jacuzzi.
Party during the evening
From 7pm the terrace opens up to the public and closes the day with an “after beach party” with all sorts of drinks and even a DJ.
From 11pm the party heats up. It takes place every day of the week, and every day has a different theme: festive, lounge, lesbian… Information is available at reception. In Winter the party moves to the ground-floor bar which looks a lot like a nightclub.
Hotel Axel’s restaurant
The Bench restaurant offers modern and seasonal Catalan cuisine, and it is also where breakfast is served for around 15 euros.

Hotel Axel also has a gym with various machines. You can even train with a personal trainer.
You can access the hotel spa for around 10 euros per person per day. It includes a humid area, a dry area, a swimming pool and a hammam. A number of treatments and massages are available for a supplement.
