Hotel Market and Bar Rosso: elegant and peaceful
Hotel Market is a three-star establishment which stands out from the crowd of boutique hotels you’ll find across Barcelona.
Even if you’re not staying at the Market, it’s still worth a visit for its elegant and charming public areas and for the varied menu.
Location of Hotel Market
Hotel Market is situated in the Sant Antoni quarter, an intriguing area of Barcelona not far from the Old Town.
A quarter with character
Despite its proximity to the city centre, the Sant Antoni quarter has retained its authentic character, with a certain village-y charm.
The quarter is also an up-and-coming area with bars, restaurants and quirky shops, attracting a young and vibrant crowd. Hotel Market provides a great base for exploring the area.
Bar Rosso at Hotel Market
Warm and welcoming with a laid-back vibe
Bar Rosso is, as its name suggests, red. The decoration is inspired by 1930s Hong Kong, and the result is both warm and intimate.
The terrace
The bar at the Market also has a long, narrow terrace running along the side of the building, looking out over a quiet street. The atmosphere here is even more relaxed.
Extensive drinks menu
Bar Rosso specialises in cocktails, with a wide range of drinks, from classics to original concoctions, available for less than 10 euros.
The Rosso is noted for its collection of mojitos and for its original recipes, such as the Vanilla Rose: a mixture of vanilla vodka, rosewater and lemon juice. Their cava cocktail, combining fizz with strawberry purée, is particularly tasty.
The menu also includes a range of liqueurs, with a price point between 4 and 10 euros, and a long list of wines by the glass, from 4 to 16 euros.
Tapas and Sunday brunch
To accompany your drinks, tapas plates can be ordered for between 3 and 9 euros. Bar Rosso also offers brunch on Sunday mornings, from 11am to 3pm, for under 20 euros.
The restaurant at Hotel Market
Hotel Market’s handsome restaurant offers quality food at reasonable prices, and is the subject of an article in its own right: Market restaurant.
For residents, breakfast is also served in this restaurant, for around 10 euros a head.
Rooms at Hotel Market
Hotel Market offers standard rooms, superior rooms and junior suites.
The difference between the standard and superior rooms is essentially a question of size. Note, too, that whilst standard rooms are equipped with showers, the superior rooms also boast a bath tub.
The rooms overlooking the street all have balconies, unlike those overlooking the lane alongside. However, the “lane” rooms are quieter.
The junior suites are even bigger than the superior rooms, with private terraces, ideal for relaxing.
