The best pubs for beer in Barcelona
Barcelona is a great city for lovers of cerveza (beer), with plenty of traditional pubs. Here’s a selection of friendly and different places for a pint or two with friends or in front of the football.
Michael Collins: an Irish pub on Plaça de la Sagrada Familia
Just next to the Sagrada Familia, you’ll find one of Barcelona’s best-known Irish pubs, popular with locals on the hunt for good-quality beer. Tucked away in the basement of a building on one of Barcelona’s most iconic squares, Michael Collins will take you to the Emerald Isle for an evening.
Go down the steps and into the warren of rooms which make this pub so unique. Pick your favourite corner, grab a beer and watch the match. Are you more the cosy corner type, or the drinks-at-the-bar type? Take you pick!
The decoration is, well, Irish, with football strips, rugby strips, official photos and some spectacular hunting trophies. And if you’ve adopted Spanish meal times, take note: the kitchen closes at 10pm!

George Payne: a centrally-located pub at Urquinaona
This is Barcelona’s biggest and most original pub. Fitted out with wooden mezzanines, stonework and stained glass, the décor has a touch of the medieval castle about it. Its size makes it a great place for groups. It’s also popular with the international community as a place to watch the football, thanks to the ten or so TV screens set up around the pub.
The prices are very reasonable, with a surprising selection of American beers. The menu is essentially Tex-Mex, with burgers, chicken wings, nachos and the like.
