Camping near Barcelona: great sites between the city and the sea!
The mediterranean climate makes Barcelona an ideal destination for camping trips – especially if you find a site near the sea! By taking the al fresco option, you get the chance to relax far from the hustle and bustle of the city, whilst staying within easy reach of the metropolis. How’s that for a top tip?
Not all campsites are created equal, so we’ve made a list of destinations around Barcelona which offer great infrastructure, great seaside or rural settings, and great transport links into Barcelona.
Camping near Barcelona: 3 Estrellas, Gava: the closest to the sea and to the centre of Barcelona
3 Estrellas: location
The Tres Estellas campsite is located 15km from Barcelona, and just 5km from Barcelona El Prat airport.
- If you’re out to top up your tan or fancy a daily dip in the sea, then this is the campsite for you – it’s one of the few sites in the region to be right by the sea, along the beach in the photo below.
3 Estrellas campsite: facilities and activities
The campsite offers a range of facilities:
- A pool complex with two basins, open from around 20th June – 30th August
- A supermarket ad souvenir shop
- A multi-purpose sports pitch
- Paddleboard and mini-golf facilities (payable)
- A restaurant/snack bar for those who don’t want to cook
- A barbecue area for fans of flames
- A watersports club on the beach behind the campsites, offering lessons and the possibility to rent windsurfing equipment, surfboards, paddleboards etc. (for a price – obviosuly!)
- Note that certain facilities (pool, souvenir shop, ice-cream stand, restaurant etc.) generally open around Sant Joan, i.e. 24th June.
3 Estrellas campsite: accommodation
- The campsite has coco-homes (half-way between a mobile home and a tent – see above) sleeping either 2 or 4. Shaded by pine trees, they give direct access to the beach.
- The onsite chalets feature private terraces, one or two rooms, a living area, bathroom and kitchenette with cooker, fridge and microwave. They sleep from 2 to 6, depending on the model.
- The cheapest of the options on offer, cabin-rooms are comfortable spaces sleeping 2 or 4, but without private bathrooms.
- If you’re more “glamping” than “camping”, opt for one of the eco-mobile homes in the pine zone.
- There’s also the option to rent a fully-fitted caravan.
- Looking for something a bit different? The eco-domes (below) are an innovative, green solution!
Bus links: 3 Estrellas – Barcelona city centre
The Mohn no. 95 bus takes you into central Barcelona in 35 minutes (Ronda Universidad- Plaça Catalunya). The bus stop is 100 metres from the campsite entrance on Autovia Castelldefels- Km 186.
You can either buy a one-way ticket from the driver, or use any of the zone 1 multi-trip transport cards. We recommend the second option as it works out considerably cheaper if you use it several times during your visit to Barcelona.
3 Estrellas: useful information
- The campsite is open from mid-March to mid-October.
- The best feature of the campsite is its seaside location: the beach is literally RIGHT THERE! No road to cross, no inconvenient railway lines blocking your access – there’s nothing to stop you running straight from your tent into the sea every morning, if that’s your thing.
- 3 Estrellas is located between a major road and the beach. The pitches are set well back from the road, so traffic noise isn’t a problem. However, it’s only 5 km from the airport, so be aware that there will be planes going by several times a day.
