Made-to-measure sandwiches: tasty, healthy and budget-friendly meals

made to measure sandwiches

Fed up of insipid sandwiches with suspect fillings? Here is a place you can go to design a snack which will be healthier, more satisfying and cheaper than anything you’ll find in a fast-food restaurant.

Building the best sandwiches

Element n°1: bread

To make a good sandwich, you need good bread. On top of holding all of the other ingredients together, the choice of bread can really make or break your meal.

The bread used in sandwich chains is often full of artificial raising agents and made from the most basic, over-refined flour. This does not make for a tasty sandwich. For reasons of speed and hygiene, many places also prepare their sandwiches in advance, and this can make the bread soggy.

Element n°2: fillings

Bô ingredients at B sandwich

Factory-farmed meat, vegetables past their best, reconstituted egg… the contents of a ready-made sandwich can be disappointing. Being able to see your ingredients and having meat cooked to order makes a whole world of difference.

Element n°3: Choice

In traditional sandwich bars, the lack of choice can be frustrating. The freedom to choose exactly what you want is a huge bonus!

The solution: Barcelona’s best sandwich bar

Facade Bo de B (c) Lea Lourmiere Sandwich

A veritable institution on Barcelona’s sandwich scene! Like every well-known eatery, the Bo de B has been a victim of its own success. To avoid the crowds, better visit in the evening – or if you really want to try your luck at lunchtime, get there early, before 1pm.

Here you can design your own sandwich but you don’t get a choice of bread, it’s baguette or nothing here. That said – and we know what we’re talking about, we’re French – the baguette is truly top-quality bread!

The eating area is very small, so we recommend getting your sandwich to take away. If you visit when it’s quiet, though, there’s the option to sit down and try some of the plated meals on offer – tasty, generous and budget-friendly, priced from €5 to €7.

Why? For the soft baguette and the tortillas, made to order.
How much? Sandwiches €5, plated meals under €10.
When? Sunday to Thursday, 12 noon – midnight; Friday and Saturday, 12 noon – 1am.
Où? C/ Fusteria 14 08002 Barcelona, Gòtic
