7 flea markets and vintage markets in Barcelona
Barcelona is a great shopping destination with an increasing number of very fashionable second-hand shops. Several vintage markets are held throughout the year, giving you even more chances to find that special, unique piece you’ve been looking for.
Els Encants: Barcelona’s flea market
Els Encants is one of Europe’s oldest flea markets, dating back to the 14th Century, and an excellent example of Barcelona’s commercial flair. It mostly sells decorative objects and furniture, with a few clothes stalls for good measure.
In 2008, the City of Barcelona decided to create a new roof structure to cover the market, without depriving it of its open air feel. The decision paid off, and the new structure, created by the architect Fermín Vázquez, is one of Barcelona’s most striking examples of contemporary architecture.
The market now covers a surface of over 15,000 m2, with over 500 sellers. There are also places to eat, changing rooms and even underground parking.
Why? It’s the city’s biggest flea market
