The restaurant at Hotel Market: budget-friendly elegance
The Market boutique hotel, situated in the up-and-coming Sant Antoni quarter, appears to be on a mission to make elegance accessible to all. Great news: the same can be said of its restaurant.
Refined interiors at the Market restaurant
Main dining room: pale wood mirrored opulence
Restaurant Market displays an elegant charm. The walls are hung with immense mirrors and aged, pale wood, giving the restaurant an air of grandeur and a feeling of space.
The peaceful terrace
Customers at the restaurant also have the possibility of eating on the terrace (except on Sundays, when Bar Rosso takes over the space from 11am for its brunch offering). The terrace is a long, narrow space which overlooks a peaceful pedestrianised street.
The terrace is definitely your best option for lunch, but the main dining room really comes into its own in the evenings.
Weekday fixed-price menu
Excellent value for money
- The Market restaurant offers a special fixed-price menu from Monday to Friday, which changes with the seasons. It costs a little over 10 euros at lunchtime and around 15 euros in the evening.
- You will be given a choice between 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts, served with a glass of wine or a bottle of water.
What do you get?
The last time we went, we had a salad with camembert toasts and red berries to start, followed by griddled calamari and aubergines, then a toffee cake with Catalan cream to finish – all of which was delicious.
We also have fond memories of pasta with gorgonzola, served as a starter, which was particularly good.
The Sant Antoni menu
The Sant Antoni menu is available at lunch and dinner, 7 days a week. Intended to be more “refined”, it will set you back around 22 euros.
Like the other menus, it changes with the seasons. Examples of what might be on offer include a carpaccio of salmon with mango batons and tomatoes with a sweet soy dressing for starters, fideuà with aïoli or cod with samfaïna for mains (if that’s all Greek to you, our articles on Catalan gastronomy and Catalan specialties will help), and a chocolate mousse with mascarpone emulsion for dessert.
A la carte
The Market restaurant offers a varied menu, offering the same kind of dishes as those included in the fixed-price menus.
Starters will set you back between 4 and 10 euros, mains between 7 and 12 euros and desserts are around the 4-5 euro mark.
The wine list is also varied, with a good selection of Catalan and Spanish offerings. Don’t know what to choose? Read our article on Catalan drinks and all will become clear…
